Brentwood’s first daffodils of the spring!

Phoenix FM listener Fr Garry Jenkins, the vicar of St George’s Church in Ongar Road, wrote to us to say:

Do you know that daffodils are ALREADY out in Brentwood very close to you – in the triangle of grass on the corner of Doddinghurst Rd and Elizabeth Rd – they must have been out for a week!

Last year, they were out on Boxing Day – but this year they’re even earlier. Are these the first out in Brentwood, due to the mild autumn? Is it the waves from your radio masts/equipment that is sending warm waves to bring the said daffodils out earlier – or the interesting programmes that you produce that has made the said daffs burst into bloom to hear them?!

Perhaps you might like to ask your listeners whether these are the first daffodils in Brentwood for this ‘early spring’- if you haven’t asked and noticed already!

In St George’s Church grounds, snowdrops were out on Monday 9th November – probably due to the warmth of the singing and praying of that church!

(We WISH we had enough transmitter power to make this happen …)

We sent out our roving reporter MICHELLE WARD to get photographic evidence:

Well, is he right? Have we found Brentwood’s first daffodils, and what on earth could be making them appear earlier and earlier each year?
