My Generation – 50 Years On.

Two great anniversaries this week – 50 years since the release of The Who‘s My Generation and 40 years since the release of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. We heard them both on the show today along with lots of new music too with the new Phoenix FM A List just released.

Being a bit of an oldie myself I don’t actually remember much about The Who of the sixties, I was very much a fan in the seventies and beyond though.

What was far more shocking was to realise that in a few days time it will be 40 years since Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody was released. I remember that clearly and the video that went along with it that seemed to be shown on Top of the Pops for weeks and weeks. The success of the song was in part due to one of my heroes, Kenny Everett who went on a personal crusade, playing the song on his show over and over after Queen’s record company executives said that a six minute song would never get played on the radio! The rest is history…

Well that’s it, 40 years ago and still fresh in my mind. I’m now officially old!
