Friday Night Extra 11.9.15 Counting down the decades of the Queen’s reign.

It was a different kind of show tonight as we celebrated the 23,228 days of the Queen’s reign (and counting). We counted down the decades with music in sequence from each decade. This format proved very popular with listeners. It also morphed into updating the titles of old songs. This was all rather surreal. My favourite was the Hollies – He ain’t heavy, he’s my anorexic sibling. Thanks Lee! I also read two extracts from the Queen’s Christmas broadcasts that show how important her faith is to her on a daily basis. We ended the music with a new track from the only artist to have had hits in all the decades, Cliff Richard.

Playlist
Booker T & Mgs – Crazy – show theme
Frank Sinatra – Moon River
Beatles – Can’t buy me love
Abba – Dancing Queen – requested by Lee
Cher – If I could turn back time
Celine Dion – Falling into you
Coldplay – Clocks
Brandon Flowers – Lonely town
Buddy Holly – Heartbeat
Dionne Warwick – Do you know the way to San Jose?
Stevie Wonder – Another star
Van Morrison – Have I told you lately that I love you?
Fugees – No woman, no cry
Take That – Rule the world
Pharrell Williams – Happy
Elvis Presley – Don’t be cruel
Gerry & the Pacemakers – Ferry Across the Mersey – requested by Phyl
Carly Simon – Your so vain
Kate Bush – Running up that hill – requested by Chris
Lionel Ritchie – Hello
Corrs – Summer sunshine
Killers – Human – for Susan and Ian and the second outing for Brandon Flowers
Chuck Berry – No particular place to go
Roger Whittaker – Durham Town – requested by Patrick and loved by Rene
Eric Clapton – Wonderful tonight
