Friday Night Extra 4.9.15 with guest Rob Saggs from CHESS

PH rad 4It was great to joined this week in the studio by Rob Saggs. He works for CHESS, opening doors for the homeless in Chelmsford.Rob spoke of how CHESS began as a winter project for single homeless people to now being a twelve month project with a number of properties in Chelmsford, where people can be helped to rebuild their lives, moving them from rough sleeping to secure accommodation. He gave one example of a man whose wife had died and in his grief had lost his children and his home. Chess slowly helped him to examine his situation and find solutions. He returned to the building trade and was managing a £6 million building project in London. Their website www.chelmsfordchess.org gives lots of information about the work. There are lots of ways to be involved as a volunteer. You can become a member, giving regular financial support. There is also the sleepover in the grounds of Chelmsford Cathedral on 27th of November. Last year there were forty sponsored volunteers. This year Rob hopes for many more. He also talked about a recent trip to Columbia to see some amazing work that is happening there where schools have been build and transformation and new potential bought to lives in the community.
