Strawberry Fair 2015

Brentwood’s popular annual event returned on Saturday 13 June, on Shenfield Common with more than 2,000 people coming to enjoy the live music, classic cars and family fun activities.

In true British tradition there were plenty of strawberries provided by Doddinghurst Road Church at their Strawberries and Cream stall.

Local performers, dance groups and bands from The Hermit performed in the Big Top, hosted once again by Phoenix FM. There was also entertainment from Rocky’s Funhouse and Punch and Judy shows throughout the day.

A range of Classic Cars competed in the Best in Show competition, which was judged by the Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Mark Reed, and Nick Hart from Nick’s Tyres. The winner was Alan Mason with his Ronart. He received a plaque and a voucher for free petrol.

The event also included lots of stalls, small rides, face painting and animal petting.

Mayor of Brentwood Councillor Mark Reed said: “The weather didn’t dampen our spirits – the Strawberry Fair turned out to be a great event! It is always a good day out for the family with so much going on – and this year it did not disappoint.

“It was a real pleasure to be judging the classic cars, but it was a difficult job too – how does one compare an Army Jeep to a classic American Chevrolet and an Essex Rolls Royce?

“We did listen to each of the cars’ engines roar and horn toots and they were scored before the final result was declared with the winner Alan Mason with his Ronart, receiving a plaque and a voucher for free petrol from the sponsors Nick’s Tyres who also kindly co-judged the cars with me.

“The entertainment in the Big Top was excellent, with Phoenix FM providing the tunes as well as supporting the various local performers who played to good audiences throughout the day.”
