Friday Night Extra 5.6.15 with guests Jane Bennett & Jes Salt.

On the hottest day of the year so far, my guest in the first hour was Jane Bennett. She told us that the company have been in their iconic building in Brentwood since the 1930s. They are heavily involved in many community projects, from a bowls competition to the Brentwood Firewalk and improvement of the grounds at St. George’s church, amongst others. As a company they deal with over 500 funerals a year. She explained how complicated a process this can be, to get everything right, and how it is incredibly rewarding. They also take seriously the provision of care for bereaved people, running a number of projects for specific groups of people. Jane told us she went to work in the family business after a period of working in the City. She had some great music choices, including introducing us to the music of Jo Bonamassa.

In the second hour I was joined by Revd. Jes Salt. Having worked in the commercial world, including over twenty years in the City, Jes is swapping this for being a full time Vicar in Buckden and the Offords in Cambridgeshire. He talked about his road to this big change, including his four years as a self-supporting curate at Ingatestone & Fryerning Parish churches. He said his highlight was working with those confirmed this year. Sarah, Polly and Giselle came in to the show and it is available to listen to via the blog for 17th of April. He chose some interesting music, including revealing a love of the music of TRex.

Join me next week for two hours of good music and chat.
