Movie Stars in Music Videos

Actors are very varied these days, not only starring in films but popping up and appearing in music videos too. Take a look at what have put their acting and dancing skills into the music industry:

Tom Hanks in ‘I Really Like You’ (Carely Rae Jepsen)

Celebrity Sightings In New York City - February 16, 2015We watch Tom waking up, walking down the street waving and pointing to everyone before getting in a taxi – we guess on his way to meet Carly as she texts him. Carly finally makes an appearance at the end and then does a group dance routine with Tom and a few other backing dancing in the middle of the street, as you do. And then from out of nowhere for no reason Justin Bieber pops out of the crowd as well!

Carly gave a bit of context and it makes more sense when she explains that “The concept for the video is a day in the life of Tom Hanks and it’s a music video inside of a music video. He’s prepping to be a part of [Carly’s] music video,” “And he’s learning the words and he’s learning the dance moves, and he’s running into strangers on the street and practicing telling them how much he likes them.”

Christopher Walken in ‘Weapon of Choice’ (Fatboy Slim)

chris walkenTom Hanks also starred as one of the main Characters in 2002 film ‘Catch Me If You Can’ alongside Christopher Walken who has been in a music video himself. He was in Fatboy’s Slim video for ‘Weapon of Choice’ dancing around an empty Los Angeles Hotel. He must have had a stunt double as some of the moves he does includes flips and he must have had some editing help as he starts flying around the hotel!
Christopher, real name Ronald, has been in many films and theatre productions since the 70’s, including ‘The Wedding Crashers’ and he currently has a few projects on the go which are in pre and post production.

Scarlett Johannson in ‘What Goes Around’ (Justin Timberlake)

scarlett and justinJustin Timberlake must have felt like a very lucky man in the story line of his song ‘What Goes Around’ as he gets to woo Scarlett Johansson. The video had a film like element to it starting off with titles, credits and then dialogue before the music starts. The fact it is 10minutes long means it is probably one of the longest music videos out there. Scenes are then interrupted with more dialogue to help the story along.Scenes include a lot of kissing between Justin and Scarlett and Justin singing in a mansion with circus type female performers dancing with fire.

Dominic Monaghan & Megan Fox in ‘Love The Way You Lie’ (Eminem ft Rihanna)

dom and megDominic Monaghan & Megan Fox portray a troubled couple in Eminem’s collaboration with Rihanna which fits quite nicely to the lyrics. The video depicts the couple always arguing but making up again with shot’s Eminem and Rihanna in different locations singing – Eminem being in a wheat field and Rihanna with flames behind her – which turns out to be Dominic and Megan’s house!

Charlize Theron in ‘Crossfire’ (Brandon Flowers)

Charlize TheronCharlize Theron is a wide ranging actor as she has been in films across many genres, from thrillers to comedies but she takes on an action role as she plays a heroine  in Brandon Flowers solo single ‘Crossfire’, saving  him 3 times after he has been tied up by some ninja’s.

Shia LeBeouf in ‘Elastic Heart’ (Sia)

elastic heartMusic videos are usually stand alone visuals for the song it goes along with but Sia seems to be making a little story out of them all. Her last single ‘Chandelier’ saw Maddie Zielger as a mini version of Sia and dancing around an empty house. Now as a follow up, in the video to ‘Elastic Heart’ Maddie is joined by actor Shia LeBeouf as they dance an interpretive dance battle in a cage. They was some controversy surrounding this video as inappropriate due to the fact Maddie is 12 and Shia is 28 and they dance quite closely together. But Sia has explained the idea behind the video is that they are the same person, in fact they are herself, and play two different states of Sia.

Rupert Grint in ‘Lego House’ (Ed Sheeran)

lego houseHarry Potter’s Ron Weasley aka Rupert Grint is the central character for Ed Sheeran’s ‘Lego House’. They have similar looks as it is with the ginger hair but as Rupert lip syncs to Ed after a while you forget it’s Ed singing as his voice really suits Rupert! However by the end we are reminded that Rupert is just playing a crazy super fan who manages to walk onto stage in front of a crowd at one of Ed’s concerts before being dragged off by security and even more so when he comes face to face with Ed as he comes out of a lift.

Bruce Willis in ‘Stylo’ (Gorillaz)

bruce willisThe fictional animated characters that are the Gorillaz, are seen driving a car, full of bullet holes in the desert for their music video to ‘Stylo’. After they shoot a policemen off their tale, none other than Bruce Willis joins the chase until the Gorrilaz drive over a cliff and into the sea. It was like watching one of his own films, seeing him shooting out of a car and chasing baddies!

Jennifer Love Hewitt in ‘Hero’ (Enrique Iglesias)

heroWith Jennifer Love Hewitt playing the love interest and Mickey Rourke the baddie, Enrique Iglesias’ ‘Hero’ is like a mini block buster. It has action, romance, slow motion scenes and an unfortunate end, on what should be Enrique’s and Jennifer’s happiest day of their lives – their wedding day, there is death. Rourke beats him up and the video ends with Enrique singing to Jennifer in the rain as he dies.

James Van Der Beek in ‘Blow’ (Kesha)

keshaAssuring us no mythical animals were hurt in the filming of the video, Kesha’s visual for her song ‘Blow’ is very odd, but this is Kesha we are talking about! Seeing her having a laugh with humans with horses as heads, she then goes on to have a battle with TV Star James Van Dek Beek verbally before shooting each other with rainbow lazered guns. Of course as it’s Kesha’s video she wins. However if you want to see James in victory then he is currently on CSI: Cyber as Agent Mundo.
