Trademarking is becoming a common thing for celebrities to do, choosing a word or phrase to make their own, meaning if anyone else wants to use it on any promotion, advertising, merchandise etc it has to gain permission from the owner or they run the risk of being sued!

The latest in trademarks is from Kris Jenner who wants to trademark the word ‘Momager’ now that she is embracing the nickname which she has been given since her family, The Kardashian’s, rose to fame.
The meaning is a mother who also manages their family. It has some positive and negative associations with it, some see it as it’s an impressive thing to do to build your family such a big reputation in the public eye, others however may think a Momager is a bit pushy in forcing their children into show business without thinking about their mental and physical well being.

Apparently a fake letter, suggested that 50 Cent should change his name to ‘79 Cent,’ ‘89 Cent,’ or ‘99 Cent’. The purpose of the letter was to promote Taco Bell’s value menu. The letter made it into the news and 50 Cent tried to sue them for using his trademarked persona and stage name to promote Taco Bell’s business and products.
On Taco bells side, a spokesmen had said, “We made a good faith, charitable offer to 50 Cent to change his name to either 79, 89 or 99 Cent for one day by rapping his order at a Taco Bell, and we would have been very pleased to make the $10,000 donation to the charity of his choice.”

yuuup 2Trey Songz had a bit of a rough time securing the phrase he wanted. US TV programme Storage Wars star Dave Hester, also wanted it. The term is a bit of an unusual one that most of us probably say everyday and that is ‘YUUUP!’ Trey Songz tried 3 times to legalise the trademark as he claimed he had it first, back in 2009 and Dave Hester started using it on his merchandise in 2011.

Some celebs are really protective over their trademarks and they should be if they mean they get money out of someone else using it! When a card company used the phrase ‘That’s Hot’ on a card, Paris Hilton was hot on it as that’s her phrase! She has had ownership of it since in February 2007 at the peak of her fame.

Tyra Banks has quite a nice one. After trying 14 times she was proved the word ‘Smize’ which means to smile with your eyes, which she uses on bags.

 

 

 

 

50 Cent
50 cent50 cent is not only Curtis Jackson’s stage name but it is also a registered trademark. Back in 2008 he had a bit of an issue with Tacobell as he claimed they have violated his trademark.
Apparently a fake letter, suggested that 50 Cent should change his name to ‘79 Cent,’ ‘89 Cent,’ or ‘99 Cent’. The purpose of the letter was to promote Taco Bell’s value menu. The letter made it into the news and 50 Cent tried to sue them for using his trademarked persona and stage name to promote Taco Bell’s business and products.
On Taco bells side, a spokesmen had said, “We made a good faith, charitable offer to 50 Cent to change his name to either 79, 89 or 99 Cent for one day by rapping his order at a Taco Bell, and we would have been very pleased to make the $10,000 donation to the charity of his choice.”
