Phoenix FM presenter and six-time world snooker champion Steve Davis is on course to reach this year’s final stages – after a hair-raising result where he beat Jamie Cope 10-9 on the last black.

Steve, who has been a regular presenter on Phoenix FM since 1996 and presents The Interesting Alternative Show with Kavus Torabi every Monday, hasn’t qualified for the past four years and needs to win two more games to reach the final stages at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

Steve led 4-0 and 9-7 against world no 59 Jamie and won the decider with a break of 52. His next opponent will be Kurt Maflin or David Grace.
