Friday Night Extra 6.3.15 with studio guest Pat Rayner talking about the Women’s World Day of Prayer.

It was a lovely sunny day in Brentwood. Tonight I was joined by Pat Rayner from Ingatestone Churches Together talking about the Women’s World Day of Prayer. Christians in over 170 countries had been involved in services and events today, where the resource material had been produced by women in the Bahamas. Pat told us about the history of the day. She had been at the Ingatestone event, which had been hosted by the Elim church and had people from three local churches taking part in the service. She said how much fun it had all been, and also that it had been very moving. She also brought in three tracks and talked about them. She had worked for a record company in the 1980s and had literally bumped into Mark Knopler at a party, so we heard a track by Dire Straits. Pat recalled being aged fifteen and liking Eric Burden and the Animals as they had been so different from the manicured other groups that were around in the mid 1960s. She chose a track by Fleetwoood Mac that recalled two friends from the 1980s who are now no longer with us. With a very expensive Country Music event this weekend at the O2, a lot of the music tonight had a country feel. All provide by Phoenix98FM for free! We also looked at some odd news stories, including the fact that speeding fines in Finland are related to how much money you earn. So if you are very wealthy and caught speeding, it can cost you a huge amount of money. One driver who earns £4.7 million pounds was fined 54,000 Euros for driving at 64mph in an area with a speed limit of 50mph. In New Zealand motorist have been confiscating keys from bad drivers and giving them to the Police. In Denmark moles are being used on archaeological sites as this is a very cheap way to get items raised with minimal damage. In Hungary you can rent an entire village for £500 for a weekend and even proclaim yourself deputy mayor and re-name the streets. The Smithsonian museums in Washington have banned selfie sticks. All these stories caused lots of comments in the chatroom.
