Yester’Ukes – The Healing Power of Good Music?

After a day of struggling with the pain of a particularly bad back it really was great to welcome a fine bunch of people, musicians and singers in to the Phoenix FM studios. Not one to moan too much, I only mention my bad back because I was so amazed how the pain of it seemed to magically disappear in the company of these fabulous entertainers. Throughout the session I was aware that I was sitting there with an enormous grin totally enjoying their company and the great music they played.

Yester’Ukes

Yester’Ukes play music from the golden age of the ukulele – the first half of the 20th century. The sort of songs you used to hear years ago when the piano was the main entertainment in pubs across the land. The kind of songs your Mum and Dad or Granny and Grandad used to sing… A bygone age maybe but they are fine songs none the less and delivered with great style by these fabulous musicians and singers.

You can listen to the entire session and interview below, including a quiz in which I tested the members of Yester’Ukes on their knowledge of the ukulele. I should have made it harder!

It wasn’t until after the show that I noticed we had an email from a listener. Not any listener but one from a rival ukulele band none the less! John Mattock from the band D’Ukes sent this message – Yester’Ukes sounding great in the studio.  Best wishes from D’Ukes! What is it about the ukulele that seems to attract such nice people?
