Friday Night Extra 27.2.15 The story in the song.

Tonight we focussed on songs that contained a story, rather than just simple words. This meant we had some interesting choices requested. The odd news stories included an amazing selection of items left in Boro Taxis in the north east of England. These included two very large amounts of money, returned to the owners. Also false teeth, an artificial leg, a large tent and a baby! Russian prisoners in Siberia had been building ice sculptures for Defenders of the Fatherland day. These included a full size model of a Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missile launcher and a T34 tank. In Dubai a 3 metre high sandcastle had been built, covered with cigarette butts. This was to highlight the problem of butts being dropped on beaches in Dubai. On one day in 2014 volunteers collected 50,000 cigarette butts in one hour. This is despite the fact that if caught littering in this way, the fine is £88 for the first offence, which can then be doubled and tripled with re-offending. This led to chatroom conversations about illegal activities in various countries. For example, in Germany there are laws to still try and keep Sunday as a quiet day, including it being illegal to drive a lorry. We also heard about an eagle owl attacking residents of a German town at night. We put a song choice with each story. Can you work out which story went with which song?

Tonight’s playlist.
Booker T & MGs – Crazy – show theme
Harry Chapin – Taxi
Star Trek theme – played to honour the memory of Leonard Nimoy, whose death was announced this evening.
Carrie Underwood – Something in the water
Herman’s Hermits – Something’s happening – requested by Patrick
Kate Bush – A woman’s work – requested by Chris
10cc – Dreadlock Holiday
