80’s Doubles

This week I played doubles – two songs from each artist including:

Kraftwerk – The German electronic music band formed in 1970 in Düsseldorf have produced 10 albums and are still touring the world and releasing new music.
In January 2014 the Grammy Academy honoured Kraftwerk with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

A-ha: On 4 December 2014 a-ha officially announced its upcoming participation on Rock In Rio 2015 which will celebrate 30 years for both the band and the event.

Curiosity Killed the Cat: They first came to notice of the UK music press when they worked with Andy Warhol for the video of the 1986 single “Misfit”.

Genesis – Land of Confusion 1986 : The song’s video featured puppets from the 1980s UK sketch show Spitting Image.

Depeche Mode: The discography of Essex electronic music group Depeche Mode consists of thirteen studio albums, six live albums, ten compilation albums, eight box sets, thirteen video albums, fifty-three singles and seventy music videos.

The Jam
were seen as the centre of mod revival culture during the 1970s to the 1980s, and the lead singer of the band, Paul Weller, was seen as The Modfather. Paul Weller’s new studio album titled ‘Saturn’s Pattern’ is due this spring – I’m rather thrilled as it has a track called “Phoenix” on it!

Wet Wet Wet: Lead singer Marti Pellow appeared as Che Guevara in Evita on tour around the UK in 2013, and subsequently reprised the role in the West End run last year at the Dominion Theatre.
Marti Pellow will be playing the narrator in Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers at Hastings White Rock Theatre between 23 and 28 March 2015.

U2 – Where the streets have no name: Lead vocalist Bono wrote the lyrics in response to the notion that it is possible to identify a person’s religion and income based on the street on which they lived, particularly in Belfast. The band are touring this year and will be in London this October.
