Timing is everything if you don’t want a stack of trouble

IMG_0485Back on Easter Bank Holiday Monday I got to talk with Sarah Smith about her book “The Secret of Aldwych Strand – END OF THE PIER AFFAIR”.

This was the first in a trilogy of books Sarah is writing, ostensibly for children over the age of about 14, but probably with much wider appeal. The first book saw our heroes, Mark and Lucy, swallowed up in a time vortex which saw them swept from the end of Southend Pier in 2013 and arrive at a London underground station in 1909. By making one ill considered decision they unwittingly change the time line, get involved with spies and then try desperately to put things back to the history they know.

At the end of the first book, as they return to the end of the pier, they think they have got everything back as it should be but ………………. they then discover that they have not returned to Southend Pier in 2013, but to Blackpool. And Blackpool in 1949, but with Blackpool Tower adorned from top to bottom with huge Swastica banners, this is clearly not the 1949 as they know from history.

And so begins the second book THE 1949 AFFAIR which has just been published. As a result Sarah popped in again today to talk about this new sequel. To hear more of what Sarah told me today click on the link below: –

Better still why not buy the book available from Amazon at £7:37 in paperback or just £1:99 in the Kindle version.

Later in the programme we learnt about the woman who thought she would surprise her ex by “dropping in” unexpectedly. Her planned mode of entry was slightlywoman in chimney unconventional – via the chimney! Unfortunately for her the opening was not designed for her slightly more generous proportions and she got wedged 8 feet from the top. Firefighters had to demolish the chimney and lift her out by crane after greasing her path with washing up liquid. In any event the object of her desire was away at the time. After being freed from the clutches of the chimney she promptly fell into the arms of the police who arrested her for attempted illegal entry and providing false information – that she’d left her keys indoors or was trying to deliver some early Christmas gifts, perhaps. Wonderful!

See you tomorrow,
Scott
