Crown Corner recycling site to close

The recycling site at Crown Corner in Kelvedon Hatch will be closed on Monday 22 September following a decision taken at the Environment Committee last week.

Brentwood Borough Council are responding to feedback and complaints from residents by closing the site as over the last few years there have been numerous complaints regarding how the recycling centre at Crown Corner is being used. The Council have noticed the complaints have increased over recent months, due to the misuse of the centre which is being used as a disposal site for all types of waste and flytipping.

Brentwood Borough Council’s Chair of the Environment Committee, Councillor William Lloyd, said: “The Crown Corner site was originally introduced to provide an opportunity for residents to recycle but since the weekly kerbside recycling started in April 2013, it is no longer needed and staff resources would be better used maintaining other areas of the Borough.

I’m pleased that we have listened to residents and that councillors on the Environment Committee agreed to close the centre because it is now being misused and causing a nuisance to those that live in the area. I am also pleased we had the support of Parish and Ward Councillors at the meeting.

I would like to reassure residents that although we are closing the site and it will be landscaped to removed the fences, we will continue to monitor it to make sure that illegal flytipping does not take place”.
