John Baron launching the 2014 Fun Walk

This evening, the Fun Walk presentation took place at which the bonus pot was distributed to the charities and projects that took part in this year’s walk at Barleylands Farm on the 18th May. This bonus is in addition to the sponsorship monies raised by the charities themselves. The total monies raised and donated in 2014 by The Fun Walk Trust was nearly £100,000, whilst the number of charities and projects benefiting this year was 110.

The Fun Walk Trust Chairman John Baron MP said:

“Raising £100,000 for 110 charities and projects on a Sunday afternoon is a phenomenal achievement. Our family of volunteers and bonus pot sponsors should be proud. Their generosity has helped many good causes in the nooks and crannies of our local communities. They illustrate that Essex is second to none when it comes to initiative and generosity.”

“The bonus pot has been instrumental to the Fun Walk’s success. Our thanks go to Barratt Homes, c2c Rail Ltd, Veolia Environmental Services, Hallmark Care Homes, Toomey Motors, Swan Housing Association, Ford Motor Co, IFE Global Logistics, New Holland Agriculture, Finmeccanica – Selex ES, Mr Barrie Stone, and others. I would also like to pay tribute to our family of volunteers for making the Fun Walk possible including ‘Team Handsome’, the Marshalls, Barleylands Farm, Hallmark Care Homes, IFE Global Logistics, and to our accountants Hunt Smee and Co. It’s been a great team effort.”

The 2015 Fun Walk will take place on 12 July. There are 2 walks to choose from. One is 3 miles and takes in the circular public walk around Crays Hill, including a couple of stiles. The second is a shorter walk within Barleylands Farm and is suitable for toddlers, families and the disabled. Both start and finish at Barleylands Farm.

The event starts at 12pm with the opening of the BBQ. There is then a photoshoot to thank our bonus pot sponsors at 12.45pm, with the walk then starting at 1pm. Finish time is around 3pm.

If your organisation would like to benefit from the 2015 walk or would like to raise money for others, then please write to The Fun Walk Committee, 13 Bentalls Business Park, Bentalls, Basildon Essex SS14 3BN, phone 07544 324218 or email funwalk@hotmail.co.uk in order to register. Further details will then be sent to you. More information available at www.thefunwalktrust.co.uk.
