When This Sea Of Madness Turns You Into Stone – 03/08/14

sonic-youth-goo_jpg_640x630_q85

This week’s show saw the start of a new segment (ooohhhhhhh I hear you gasp in amazement!) that hasn’t really got a proper name, at the moment it’s entitled ‘Albums That Shaped Me’. Each week I shall pick an album that’s very important to me, and play a couple of songs from it, and quite possibly tell the tale of when I first heard it, what it means to me etc.
For this show I chose the Sonic Youth album Goo, released back in 1990. It was my first experience of Sonic Youth, I was 14 years old and quite frankly it blew my mind, and continues to do so to this very day. It was fundamental in opening up a whole new world (well to me anyway) of alternative music and without it I probably wouldn’t be doing what I do now and discovered as many bands as I have. Sonic Youth, I thank you!
Oh and PS : The new Jenny Lewis is ace, and you should all own it in your record collection!
See you next time.

1. Beck – Sissyneck (Odelay – 1996)
2. Animal Collective – The Purple Bottle (Feels – 2005)
3. Band Of Skulls – Toreador (Himalayan – 2014)
4. Sonic Youth – Dirty Boots (Goo – 1990)
5. Jenny Lewis – The Voyager (The Voyager – 2014)
6. Howling Black Soul – Soul To Lay (S/T – 2014)
7. Isis – Backlit (Panopticon – 2004)
8. Neil Young – For The Turnstiles (On The Beach – 1974)
9. Bob Dylan – If Not For You (New Morning – 1970)
10. Guitar Wolf – Mesopotamian Lonely (Beast Vibrator – 2013)
11. Dingus Khan – The Deathmarch Of Dingus Khan (B-side – 2012)
12. Spoon – Outlier (They Want My Soul – 2014)
13. The Twilight Sad – I Became A Prostitue (Forget The Night Ahead – 2009)
14. Mogwai – Friend Of The Night (Mr. Beast – 2006)
15. Sonic Youth – Kool Thing (Goo – 1990)
16. Genesis – Firth Of Fifth (Selling England By The Pound – 1973)
17. J Mascis – Every Morning (Tied To A Star – 2014)
18. The Moldy Peaches – Nothing Came Out (The Moldy Peaches – 2001)
19. Isis – Syndic Calls (Panopticon – 2004)
20. Battles – Ice Cream (Gloss Drop – 2011)
21. Sonic Youth – Mote (Goo – 1990)
22. Nick Cave – The Ship Song (The Good Son – 1990)
23. Can – Yoo Doo Right (Monster Movie – 1969)
