Friday Night Extra 20.6.14 with appreciation of Gerry Goffin

There was an early 1960s feel to the show this week. We had an appreciation of the music of Gerry Goffin who passes away on 19th of June. Most of his successful song writing was with his first wife Carole King. He penned seven USA no 1s, and a total of 59 Top 40 hits in the USA. The odd news stories included the Labour party having their official tweets high-jacked so the Ed Milliband was apparently saying everyone should have an owl. We thought having an owl in the back garden would be rather nice. We heard about a Japanese pop fan who bought a thousand bags of crisps to collect enough tokens to visit back stage his favourite star. He then dumped all the crisps and was arrested. There was also had the thief who was traced and arrest by the police after leaving his false teeth at the scene of the crime.
Tonight’s playlist.
Booker T & MGs – Crazy
Gerry Rafferty – Night Owl
Derek and the Dominoes – Layla
Leona Lewis – Ain’t no mountain high enough
