Friday Night Extra Good Friday special 18th April 2014

For the first hour tonight I was joined in the studio by Revd Paul Gambling. Paul talked about his experiences today in Ingatestone, particularly about being part of the Walk of Witness. He told us about why he feels that Easter is so important and that the Easter story is very contemporary despite being 2000 year old. He chose a couple of tracks for us and spoke about how Easter was being celebrated in Israel. In the second hour I was joined by Tim Lee from Christ Church Warley and Brentwood Churches Together and thirteen year old Jontie McConnaughie. Both of them had been invoked in the commemorations of Good Friday in a very busy Brentwood High Street and in giving out Hot Cross Buns. Tim and Jontie talked about why such events are important and the significance of Easter to them. Tim chose a track by Malcolm and Aiwyn and Jontie by U2. Tim shared an amazing story of forgiveness from Iran. Jontie read a news item about people around the world knitting 6,300 chicks for a children’s hospice in Manchester that will raise them £6,000. It was a pleasure to have all the guests in the studio tonight as they spoke with great sincerity and it was good fun.

Tonight’s playlist
Booker T & the MGs – Crazy – show theme
Eva Cassidy – Songbird
Lilly Allen – Somewhere we used to know
Barber – Agnus dei – chosen by Paul
David Bowie – Life of Mars
Phil Collins – In the air tonight – requested by Chris
