Friday Night Extra 11.4.14 with guests Ven. David Lowman & Ivy Bolatch, 84 year old abseiler.

We had a varied and packed show tonight with lots of listener responses. In the first hour I was joined by the Church of England Archdeacon of Chelmsford, the Ven. David Lowman. David talked about his ministry now and the kind of work he undertakes to help free clergy to preach the Gospel. He was passionate about his involvement with the Retreat House at Pleshey and also talked about the day retreat for Easter that he is leading. He told us about his work over the years in the selection process for those going forward for ordination. There was a moving story from his time at Wickford. He also stated a love of California and chose what to some people who know him, surprising choices in music. We will all imagine him driving in an open top car by the beach in California listening to the Beach Boys.

In the second hour I was joined by octogenarian abseiler Ivy Bolach. Last Saturday she had abseiled down the tower at Ingatestone church, the equivalent to higher than an eight storey building. No only did she inspire us, but she had everyone in stitches with her description of being dressed for the descent. She said now she fancied tackling somewhere higher, and Lee in the chatroom suggested the Shard! Listeners in Austria, London and Harlow all commented that Ivy made them laugh so much.
Tonight’s playlist.
Shark in my teeth – Circus waves
Booker T and the MGs – Crazy – show theme
Wet, Wet, Wet. -Love is all around
Robbie Williams Go gentle
Beach Boys – Good Vibrations, chosen by Arch deacon David to remember California sunshine and beaches.
Simon and Garfunkle – Bridge over troubled waters – chosen by Arch deacon David because he sees that in a lot of his work he has the role of being a bridge over troubled waters.
La Cage Aux Follies – I am what I am – chosen by Arch deacon David because we should enjoy being who we are.
Soweto String Quartet – Millennium
Rembrants – I’ll be there for you
Coldplay – Paradise
Electric Light Orchestra – Mr. Blue sky – for Ivy as it was a blue sky last Saturday for the abseiling.
Take That – Beautiful World – requested by Michael
Ray Stevens – Misty – for Patrick
Queen – Who wants to live forever? – requested for Siane by her mother Chris
The Washboard Syncopators – Stevedore Stomp – for band member Jim in hospital

Listen again to the link that will be in place after Easter Sunday.
Join me next week for a Good Friday special when my studio guests are Revd. Paul Gambling and Tim Lee.
