When One Act Of Kindness Could Be – 19/01/14

theesilvermtzion

Tomorrow sees the first big Monday of album releases in 2014. Having spent the past week or so absoring some of these albums I can heartily recommend any of the following :

Warpaint – Warpaint
Alcest – Shelter
Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra – Get Free We Pour Light On Everything
Mogwai – Rave Tapes
Dum Dum Girls – Too True
I Break Horses – Chiaroscuro

Any of the above are worth your hard earned pound coins and your time. Special mentions do go to two of these releases. First there’s the second Warpaint album, which having kept us waiting for nearly 4 years delivers greatly. If I sum up the first album as ‘hushed tones’ then this album is a delicate whisper, full of understated beauty but with a real groove at it’s heart.
Secondly, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra, anything I say about this won’t do it justice. Let’s just say that I was wearing socks when the album started but after it’s finish they were gone, and I did not take them off myself. Hopefully that last sentence will make more sense to you than it does to me reading it back. It’s a euphoric, breathtakingly powerful and moving record. There we go that’s better.
So I implore you to visit your local record emporium and hunt these down.
PS. No disrespect is intended to other releases also released that I haven’t heard yet, sorry.
PPS. I really am sorry.
PPPS. No truly. A thousand apologies.
See you next time!

04 – Alcest – Voix Sereine (Shelter – 2014)
05 – The Jesus And Mary Chain – In A Hole (Psychocandy – 1985)
06 – The Gun Club – She’s Like Heroin To Me (Fire Of Love – 1981)
07 – Thee Silver Mt. Zion – Take Away These Early Grave Blues (…Get Free We Pour Light On Everything – 2014)
