Steve Davis in the Jungle and Sam Callahan says Goodbye to X Factor

Snooker star and Phoenix FM presenter Steve Davis has swapped his waistcoat for a khaki suit to appear in the latest series of ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’

Steve (2)

Here’s some top facts about Steve that you might not know.

1. Only Stephen Hendry has won more snooker ranking titles than Davis’ 28.

2. In the 1980s Davis had a reputation for being boring, an image he cashed in on with an advert for baked beans (tag line ‘Really Interesting’) and book (‘How To Be Really Interesting’).

3. But Steve is anything but dull. He’s a big music fan and hosts a radio show here on Phoenix FM

4. Steve is a Charlton Athletic fan but is a director of Leyton Orient, who are owned by his long-time manager, Barry Hearn.

5. At the height of his popularity Davis joined up with Chas & Dave and fellow snooker superstars including Dennis Taylor and Willie Thorne to record the hit record (really, it went to No6 in the charts), Snooker Loopy.

6. Steve’s son Greg, aged 21, is an aspiring snooker player who has entered the sport’s ‘Q School’ in a bid to earn a place in the pro ranks.

7. As well as snooker Davis has played professional pool – winning the Mosconi Cup with Europe twice – and also enjoyed success in several televised poker tournaments.

8. Steve Davis is still active on the snooker circuit and is currently ranked 51 in the world.

Well he may have an encounter with some non snooker balls in the jungle! Good luck Steve!

Someone else we wished good luck to on the show today was Sam Callahan.

During the week of the Great British songbook on The X Factor, it was announced that the show’s blue-eyed boy Sam Callahan had crashed out after a tense sing off against his friend and group mate Luke Friend, meaning that judge Louis Walsh has finally lost one of his boys.

Sam never really hit it off with the judges so it was probably obvious that lucky Luke would be saved, despite having a few wobbly weeks.

Louis abstained from voting for either of his acts. Nicole voted to send Sam home saying she connected more with Luke and that although Sam had given it his all it was too late.

Gary said he loved Luke’s style and agreed with Nicole that last night had seen Sam’s best performance but still sent him home.

Sam promised us it won’t be the last we’ll see of him and Louis said that he ‘worked hard and deserved to be successful’. Only time will tell!

Well I met Sam earlier this year when he came into the Phoenix FM studio to perform live. Sam is a talented hard working performer and a very nice young man with it. He may not have had the strongest vocals of the remaining finalists, but as Miley Cyrus proved in the show last night, you don’t have to have the best voice in the world to be successful.

While with us earlier this year Sam recorded an exclusive track for us – Find My Own Way – which we heard on today’s show.

Good Luck Sam and come back and see us again soon.
