David does his bit

On today’s show I was delighted to welcome Dave Quaife, brother of PETE QUAIFE, the late legendary bass guitarist and founder of the 60’s group THE KINKS.

Pete sadly died in 2010 after battling kidney failure for over 10 years and Dave has established the PETE QUAIFE FOUNDATION in his memory. The aim is to give children on dialysis treatment a means of interest and enjoyment whilst they are connected to the machines, which can be for anything up to 4 hours at a time. It seemed appropriate to do this through music so he has organised live gigs and events. The Foundation even has it’s own record label and publishing house to support bands who are helping the foundation. A special CD is being launched this week called PASS IT ON and a launch party is being staged this coming Saturday 21st September at THE SEVEN DIALS CLUB, 42 EARLHAM STREET, LONDON WC2. And you can go too! Tickets are priced at £26, which includes the cost of food prepared by a renowned chef. To get yours just go to the website at www.petequaifefoundation.com.

If you’d like to get hold of the 35 track double jewel case CD with booklet detailing the 18 bands who have donated a cover track, the cost is just £10.20 including first class postage. This can also be obtained from the Pete Quaife Foundation website, as above.

David also brought John Patch and Mick Finch from THE MOST,  one of the bands who has provided music for the CD.

You can listen again to my chat with Dave and the guys from THE MOST together with one of their songs right here: – Pete Quaife Foundation 16th September

Penguin pooIn the second hour of the show, we looked at some of the Ig Nobel awards granted to authors of some daft research projects. Included in this was the age old question of just how far a penguin can eject it’s poo. Well the answer is 40 cms, so if like me that question has been keeping you awake at nights, you are now guaranteed a good night’s sleep.

See you tomorrow,

Scott
