Now like it or not, but councils do have to find money to pay for all the facilities in our towns, but we’ve recently heard of some councils being accused of using parking fees as a cash cow, or even insisting that people who want to lease out their front drives to other motorists, must first apply for planning permission. Well perhaps Newport council in South Wales, have
found another way of raising money, as cannabis plants have been spotted sprouting amongst the begonias and petunias decorating their streets. Some of the plants, which had been carefully nurtured by the council’s gardeners, were found to be growing less than half a mile from Newport’s CentralPolice Station! By the time police were alerted to the presence of the plants, the crop had been harvested. A council spokesman said it was a serious matter and would be reported to the police. Whether he was referring to the growing of the crop, or that someone had got there before council officials had had a chance to reap the harvest themselves, is unclear.
