Album Of The WeekAlela Diane – About Farewell : I’ve found it nigh on impossible to write some words about the new album from Californian singer-songwriter Alela Diane without using the word beautiful 58 times (although that might be in part due to my limited vocabulary). An utterly captivating release that at times is delicate and heartbreaking, but always nothing less than strikingly beautiful (there I go..). First listen was swiftly followed by second then a third, as I often say but this is very true in this albums case, it comes so highly recommended it’s floating in the clouds, which you will be after listening (that’s my pun licence revoked!)

33RPM At The MoviesGoblinSuspiria : For this week’s soundtrack we went back to 1977 and the classic Dario Argento horror film Suspiria. The second Argento film that Goblin had scored (the first being Deep Red), is a proggy, hypnotic, psychedelic fueled trip that really adds an ambience to the film, especially the title track, which was to become one of the bands most famous songs. If you’ve never seen the film then you really should, it’s a classic from that era and one of the last great Argento movies.

Name Remains The SameI Want You : Bob Dylan, Inspiral Carpets and Elvis Costello shared the title I Want You this week. I’d also forgotten how brilliant the Elvis Costello song is.

PS : New Pixies track! Three words I thought I’d never write. Although sadly it seems to have come at the cost of losing my favourite Pixie Kim Deal. It is a beast of a track so I’m slighty less trepidatious about any more new material that may surface.
PPS : Future Of The Left have a new EP out, it’s called Love Songs For Our Husbands, it’s bloody great, that is all..
See you next week!
