2013 Round Up Whirlygig – 30/06/13

Apparently we have reached the halfway point of 2013. This is what my calendar tells me, it is true, but I am still slightly baffled as to where the year has gone. But one thing I am not baffled by is the amount of excellent music that has been released so far this year.
Now I do say this every year, but that’s quite simply because it’s true. If you are one of the naysayers who say that music isn’t as good as (insert decade here) I will disagree with you till several cows come home. Possibly as many as a dozen. There is some truly magical and moving music being made, you just need to listen.
Anyhoo, in the tradition of making lists. I picked (and played a track from each) twelve albums that I think are the best released so far this year. Due to the sheer volumes there are many that I’ve missed, forgotten about or just haven’t had the chance to listen to properly yet. They are in no order, as I just wanted to present them as twelve great albums. They are as follows :

Low – The Invisible Way
Mazes – Ores And Minerals
Kavinsky – OutRun
Daughter – If You Leave
The Uncluded – Hokey Fright
Barn Owl – V
Boards Of Canada – Tomorrow’s Harvest
Grouper – The Man Who Died In His Boat
Waxahatchee – Cerulean Salt
Mark Kozelek & Jimmy LaVelle – Perils From The Sea
The Haxan Cloak – Excavation
Ed Harcourt – Back Into The Woods

Any one of these is worth your listening time and your hard earned money. They have all meant something to me over the last six months. You can get a preview of a track from each of these albums at the Mixcloud link below!
See you next and I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year brings!

01 – Eels – Peach Blossom (Wonderful, Glorious)
02 – David Bowie – If You Can See Me (The Next Day)
03 – Ducktails – Under Cover (The Flower Lane)
04 – Low – Amethyst (The Invsible Way)
05 – Mazes – Bodies (Ores & Minerals)
06 – Kavinsky – Odd Look (OutRun)
07 – Daughter – Youth (If You Leave)
08 – The Uncluded – Boomerang (Hokey Fright)
09 – Barn Owl – The Long Shadow (V)
10 – Fashoda Crisis – Polonium Tea Party (The Jowls Of Justice)
11 – Boards of Canada – Sick Times (Tomorrow’s Harvest)
12 – Grouper – Vital (The Man Who Died In His Boat)
13 – Waxahatchee – Lips And Limbs (Cerulean Salt)
14 – Mark Kozelek And Jimmy LaVelle – Here Come More Perils from the Sea (Perils From The Sea)
15 – The Haxan Cloak – The Mirror Reflecting (Part 2) (Excavation)
16 – Ed Harcourt – The Man That Time Forgot (Back Into The Woods)
17 – Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds – Mermaids (Push The Sky Away)
