All aboard THE TOKYO EXPRESS

Here we are, another saturday and amazingly the weather looks set fair for the weekend. A good time to go fishing perhaps – especially in Billericay. Quite why this should be the case, we learnt from Frances Clamp in the second hour of today’s show. But more of that in a moment.
First off I was joined by local publicist, Audrey Snee. A lady of many talents, Audrey not only publishes books, but under a pseudonym, Una Rose, she also writes books. On the publishing side of things Audrey made special reference to a fascinating book on the old Southend firm, EKCO founded by E K Cole, a new novel as well as a book for children – FESTIVAL OF THE GARGYLES by Robert Hallmann.

More than 10 years in the writing, Una has just completed her novel, THE TOKYO EXPRESS. The book is set in Japan as the second World War is coming to its end but with eerie parallels with the present. Listen here to hear what Audrey/Una had to tell me: – [audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Una-Rose-Interview.mp3|titles=Una Rose Interview]

Oh and by the way Audrey will be back in Brentwood, next Saturday afternoon to give a talk to THE BRENTWOOD WRITERS CIRCLE at the Fairfax Rooms, Brentwood Ursuline School, Queens Road. If you are interested the event is free for members and £3 for visitors. You can get more information from Janice Grande on 01268 451547. Both FESTIVAL OF THE GARGOYLES and THE TOKYO EXPRESS are available from www.estuarypublishing.co.uk or Waterstones at £9.99. They are also available from some independent book sellers, mainly in the Southend area at present. The childrens’  book is also available in Brentwood at the independent Childrens Bookshop.

Anyway back to the fish.Frances Clamp returned from her holidays with the tale of a fish (well the
story rather than a tail) connected with Billericay. If you missed it or to learn what that was all about, you can listen again here: – [audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Bygones-25th-June2.mp3|titles=Bygones 25th June]
