The Crocked Monsieurs and ideas for making and spending money!

I was delighted to find myself sitting in once more for MICHELLE WARD – especially today as I had the chance to meet up with THE CROCKED MONSIEURS – well two of them at least, CHRIS HOWARD and COLIN BATTERS. There are two other members of this South London based band – TONY HEASMAN and MICK TAYLOR who couldn’t be with us today.

The band has recorded a song, HOME SWEET HOME to support victims of domestic violence. The project started after they learnt that REFUGE, the charity specifically started to for this purpose, had lost its funding which potentially put some 80,000 women at extra risk.

On a lighter note we played three songs by THE VELVET TREE – today’s featured band recorded specially and exclusively for PHOENIX FM at the CREATIVE SESSIONS  last April.

We also looked at a couple of weird stories. The first story concerned a man who advertised his “clapped out” Mercedes on E-Bay and has been staggered by the response. Bids have now topped £150,000!

The second story concerned a new holiday home for dogs established in Devon. Here pampered pooches can enjoy a reiki masterclass and their own private suite with all mod-cons, a screen showing films such as Lassie and 101 Dalmations with dog-friendly popcorn to chew on, and to make them really feel at home, each dog will be given its own, custom-made doghouse – a replica of their owner’s home.

Outdoor activities include a surfing lesson and a run along the beach with Dai Greene, the 400m hurdle Commonwealth & World Champion.

While a spa and grooming session at the Harrod’s Pet Spa will involve an aromatherapy bath and body masssage, a wash and fluff dry and even a pedicure.

Guests will also be dressed nose to tail in a luxury wardrobe of Louis Vuitton collar, Bottega Veneta lead and Mulberry mac.

Even the lucky dog’s spiritual wellbeing will be attended to, with reiki sessions on offer from Rob Fellow, a practitioner and a Master Teacher Member of the UK Reiki Federation.

And dog behavioural expert and author Stan Rawlinson will be on hand to discourage any spoilt tendancies.

And the cost of all this – a snip at just £47,000 which includes a donation of £8400 to Battersea Dogs Home and Cancer Research. Can there really be a market for this kind of nonsense?

Michelle returns tomorrow and I’ll see you again soon.
