A real mixed grill

As I was deputising for Michelle Ward for the first 2 hours of her show today, Michelle then looked after the final hour of her show followed by my One-2-Three slot, I’m confused. That is easy to achieve, so you can imagine what this “mish-mash” has done to me.

A dramatic start to the day added to the excitement as we had deluges of snow overnight where I live so I wasn’t even sure I’d make it to the studio. But lo and behold after just 3 miles I emerged from the snowfields into the sunlight and arrived in Brentwood in plenty of time to do the first part of EAT MY BRUNCH. As usual when covering this slot I like to include some strange but true stories which you might have missed.

First off came the story of the man who, as he checked his driving mirror, was surprised to discover a screwdriver sticking out of his head. It seems that he had been doing some work in his garden, had fallen and landed on the tool. His neighbour took him to hospital where he underwent a three hour operation to have the screwdriver removed. The good news is that he is expected to make a full recovery.

Next up came news of a woman from Leeds who eats pies for a living. The lady is a tester to try to find new pie ingredients for a supermarket chain. I wonder if she was the lady who recommended horse as a new delicacy. Anyway it seems that if she has a hard week at work she may have to consume as many as 200 pies in a single week, although most weeks she averages 30-35 pies. Fortunately she is a great fan of pies but after a heavy day at work she has something light for her tea. In later years one can imagine that when visiting the seaside coastguards may have to ask her to leave the beach so that the tide can come in!

Right I think at this point I should sign off and pass the candle to Michelle.

All the best,

Scott
