FA Trophy LIVE: Kingstonian v Brentwood Town

Kingstonian  2-2  Brentwood Town

Billericay Town 3-2  Enfield Town

Dagenham & Redbridge 5-0  Rotherham United

Southend United 0-0  Port Vale

—————

FULL TIME:  Becoming almost blase about these dramatic late finishes but it took me by surprise.  I was all ready to sum up a brave effort from Brentwood, but they went and Blewitt all out of the water as far as the hosts were concerned.

Terrible first half, good second half.  The replay could be special.

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/8-Kingstonian-2-2-Brentwood-FT-Summary.mp3|titles=8 – Kingstonian 2-2 Brentwood FT Summary]

Next up will be the replay at The Arena.  Get yourself there if you can.  Until then, enjoy your weekend, and your football.

—————

89th min – GOAL! ….. Kingstonian 2,  BRENTWOOD TOWN 2 Yet again, late drama!  A corner on the left, the slightest of touches from the head of  DARREN BLEWITT, and it hits the far post and goes in!

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/7-Kingstonian-2-2-Brentwood.mp3|titles=7 – Kingstonian 2-2 Brentwood]

Get.  In.  There!

88th min – All Brentwood possession-wise, but creating nothing.

84th min – More Brentwood pressure results in a corner from each flank.  But they are easily defended.  Bah.

80th min – Just a blocked Daryl Robson shot to show for visiting pressure these past few minutes.  Time is ticking away.

77th min – A Brentwood substitution.  Robbie Rees comes on for Greg Cohen.

75th min – Another save from Justham, this time from a low shot on the left, that the ref doesn’t see and gives a goal kick.  Chortle.

72nd min – From a home throw-in on the left comes a move and volley on the edge of the area, which Elliott Justham does superbly well to tip over the bar.  Cracking football at last.

69th min – Sorry for the break in updates there, too many goals and stuff in too short a time to get the updates here as regular as I’d like.  Fairly evenly balanced now, both sides looking threatening coming forward now, but neither keeper has been stretched since the last goal.

61st min – GOAL! ….. KINGSTONIAN 2,  Brentwood Town 1 Good grief, a set piece works.  A corner on the right and TOM HUTCHINSON powers home a header from inside the six yard box.

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/6-Kingstonian-2-1-Brentwood.mp3|titles=6 – Kingstonian 2-1 Brentwood]

Cruel but that’s the Trophy.

57th min – GOAL! ….. Kingstonian 1,  BRENTWOOD TOWN 1 Oh yes!  From yet another terrribly executed Kingstonian set piece, there’s a Brentwood break on the right, and ALEX READ beautifully lobs into the far post corner of the net just inside the area.

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/5-Kingstonian-1-1-Brentwood.mp3|titles=5 – Kingstonian 1-1 Brentwood]

Liquid football!

51st min – GOAL! ….. KINGSTONIAN 1,  Brentwood Town 0 Rough justice, but that’s how it rolls in one-offs.  The ball is played into the area on the left, and CRAIG MULLEN, the sub, lifts it over one defender and into the net, despite a desperate attempt to kick it off the line.

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/4-Kingstonian-1-0-Brentwood.mp3|titles=4 – Kingstonian 1-0 Brentwood]

Ho hum.

49th min – A Kingstonian corner on the right is up the usual standard today, unerringly finding the right boot of a defender on the edge of the area.  I’m not saying it’s dull, but I’m currently dispensing hangover cures on twitter.

4.06pm – Kick Off! Please let it be better.

—————

HALF TIME:  Thank goodness for that.  The poorest 45 minutes of the season so far.  No blame attached to Brentwood for this though, they’ve been tidy, efficient, and as the away team doing a more than adequate job.  It’s simply been thoroughly poor from the hosts, who only woke up just before the break.  Things can only get better, surely?

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/3-Kingstonian-0-0-Brentwood-HT-Summary.mp3|titles=3 – Kingstonian 0-0 Brentwood HT Summary]

Right, off for a Bovril and some mogadon.  Laters.

—————

44th min – The Kingstonian twitter feed describes that miss from Wase Small as “denying everyone the chance to see the best K’s goal ever.”   What planet are they on?  They certainly can’t be on this planet.  Or Kingstonian have never ever scored ever.

41st min – It’s still not cleared properly, and from the right, the ball is volleyed inside the area.  It hits the roof of the terracing behind the goal but the home fans ooh and aah as if it was cleared off the line.  I suppose it did count as a chance, though, so no wonder they cheered, I guess.

40th min – At last, a bit of home danger, as the ball is centred low from the right and only half cleared, then high from the left that Elliott Justham had to stretch to tip away.

37th min – Abs Seymour is the subject of a clumsy tackle, wide on the right near the halfway line, with the miscreant being booked.  Poor tackle neatly summarising a poor home performance to date.

32nd min – That should have been 1-0 to Brentwood.  Nice through ball to Alex Read on the edge of the area, easily beating the offside trap.  He shoots straight away, though, a weak curler that is easily saved.  A great chance wasted.

29th min – Going forward, Greg Cohen passes the ball straight to an opposing defender, whose long run results in a corner on the Kingstonian left.  Just as well they’ve been rubbish at set pieces thus far.  It ends with a Brentwood break and a Sam Battick shot going high and wide.

24th min – A moment of menace on the Kingstonian right as their winger loses his marker but in the end Abs Seymour clears the danger.

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/2-Kingstonian-0-0-Brentwood-Mid-1st.mp3|titles=2 – Kingstonian 0-0 Brentwood Mid 1st]

Brentwood slightly shading it so far though.

19th min – Brentwood, from Eliiott’s kick, force a corner on the left.  It’s delivered at speed right into the six yard box, but nobody gets a touch.  A flash of danger, though.

18th min – A K’s free kick on the left touchline goes the same way as their earlier effort, into Justham’s hands.  Very wasteful from the hosts.

14th min – First sign of Kingstonian pressure.  The win a corner on the left, and from that, they try a centre from the right into the six yard box, but it goes straight into Elliott Justham’s hands.

11th min – Abs Thompson, from the half way line, hoists a free kick to the right hand edge of the home box.  Greg Cohen gets by his man cleverly but his shot from a tight angle just about catches the 131 bus to Kingston.

8th min – Ooh, so close for a Brentwood Town opener!  Nice run from Alex Read on the left, he gets to the bye line and cuts inside the Kingstonian box.  His low centre across the six yard box evades the keeper – but everyone else.  Encouraging stuff though.

7th min – Daryl Robson gets a yellow card for the first foul of the game, without any malice, more or less on the half way line.  Blimey.

5th min – Nothing to see so far.  Apart from the worst throw-in ever from Brentwood, which was like a glitch on Fifa 13.  Chortle.

3.03pm – KICK OFF! Oh yes!

—————

3.00pm – The minute’s silence for Remembrance Weekend is impeccably observed.  Today, is after all, only a game.

2.58pm – And out they come to one shout of “Come on Brentwood” and a ripple of applause.  You can feel the excitement.  Or possibly indigestion.

2.55pm – We await the sides to the sounds of Fanfare For The Common People.

2.52pm – Team News: Brentwood Town go with:

1  – Elliott Justham

2  – Ryan Doyle

3  – Abs Seymour

4  – Daryl Robson

5  – Darren Blewitt (c)

6  – Sam West

7  – Abs Thompson

8  – Sam Battick.

9  – Alex Read

10 – Neil Cousins

11 – Greg Cohen

2.50pm – Updates may be a bit slow today as broadband connection is slower than an asthmatic tortoise.  With this dongle you can barely get anything anywhere, Kevin Bacon.

For some reason, Kingstonian have opened three stands for today.  There seems to be barely enough to fill one at the moment.

2.45pm – Elsewhere, Billericay Town are in the exact opposite role as ‘Wood, at home to a side one league below them, but with the added sting of having beaten their opponents 7-0 in a pre-season friendly.  Enfield Town will have a point to prove.

East Thurrock United have the unusual luxury of a spare weekend, whereas for our League Two sides, it’s back to divisional action with a couple of home games.  Still, we all like bread and butter, don’t we.  I used to prefer marge, mind, but she left some time ago.

2.40pm – Welcome, everyone, to this afternoon’s frivolities from Kingsmeadow.  After all the fun of the FA Cup, could there be more spills and thrills in the Trophy?  Brentwood Town have at last run into a bit of form and seemed to have recovered from that grisly afternoon at South Park.  Redemption for that day could be on its way.

It’s a tough ask though.  Kingstonian are in fine form themselves and currently occupy a play-off slot in the Ryman Premier, one division above Brentwood.  But, as we know, this is what cup – and trophy – upsets are about.  Forget the league, this is just a one-off.  And it could be a cracker.

As ever, keep refreshing the page every few minutes, and you never know, there could be a few early fireworks coming your way.

GAME ON!

FA Trophy LIVE: Kingstonian v Brentwood Town

Kingstonian  2-2  Brentwood Town

Billericay Town 3-2  Enfield Town

Dagenham & Redbridge 5-0  Rotherham United

Southend United 0-0  Port Vale

—————

FULL TIME:  Becoming almost blase about these dramatic late finishes but it took me by surprise.  I was all ready to sum up a brave effort from Brentwood, but they went and Blewitt all out of the water as far as the hosts were concerned.

Terrible first half, good second half.  The replay could be special.
