AN EXTRA LUNCH SITTING TODAY

I was very surprised but pleased to find myself sitting in for Michelle Ward again on EAT MY LUNCH.

As usual when I look after the show for Michelle I highlighted a few oddball news stories which you might have missed.

First off was the story of the governor of Florida who inadvertently misread a telephone number. He had intended to publicise a hotline providing information on the deadly fungal meningitis outbreak which has hit the region, but the one incorrect digit resulted in people being directed to an adult chat line!  Surprised callers were greeted by a female voice saying, “Hello boys, thank you for calling me on my anniversary”. It has not been reported whether this line finally proved the more popular for callers.

Next up was the story of some pensioners in Bedford who had been carefully nurturing a plant they had unwittingly bought at a car boot sale. The plant had grown into the largest cannabis plant, police had ever seen when they raided the couple’s garden. Just how they became alerted to the plant’s existence was not reported. But perhaps the couple could use the services of a New Orlean’s lawyer who suffered the misfortune of a marijuana joint falling out of his pocket whilst chatting to a police officer at the local court house. How unlucky can you get?

During the course of the programme I was joined by Sue Ospreay of the Hornchurch based, Lightnin’ Drama Group. Sue talked about their latest production of Sleeping Beauty & The Enlightnin’ Dragon which will be staged at the Queens Theatre in Hornchurch between next Thursday 18th and Saturday 20th October. A few tickets are still available for the evening performances at 7:30 nightly by calling 01708 522245 or 07870 911029. The price of tickets is £10 (£8 for concessions).

Apart from giving the background of the group, Sue also talked about their 30th anniversary celebrations and of of their sensational production of “ON A WING AND A PRAYER” which was based on the pilots who flew from Hornchurch during the second World War.

Well that’s it from me. Hopefully Michelle will be back in harness before too long.

All the best,

Scott
