FULL TIME:  And the ref blows time on a very, and unexpectedly, easy afternoon for the Rocks.  They were in complete command from the off, and once the first goal went in, were never in any danger.  Wembley Way doesn’t exactly beckon, but that junction was easy enough to drive past.

What, with the pics, and the twitter, and the updates here, and the radio reports, it gives me about 3 minutes to watch the game, but hey, at least you get a feel of the day overall rather than focusing too much on the game itself.  That’s my excuse, anyway.

Next up will be Monday’s Conference South clash between Boreham Wood and Billericay Town.  Until then, enjoy the weekend.  Laters.

—————

90th min + 1 – Dee Okojie tries another shot from the edge of the area.  It’s on target but has the speed of an asthmatic snail.  Easily dealt with.

88th min – Danny Ellis goes close to getting a consolation for Hastings, his near post header from a corner on the left going  just wide.  And over.  But still.

85th min – Hastings sub Danny Ellis and Josh Jibrandey both have shots deflected for corners.  Dee Okojie tries a third, but it ends up bouncing across the Manorway.

82nd min – Ryan Sammons goes off and on comes Spencer Harrison.

80th min – A somewhat scrappy home move, initiated by Reiss Gilbey and punctuated by defensive errors, ends with his shot inside the area being deflected and eventually cleared after Sam Higgins tried to pounce on the rebound.

75th min – Kye Ruel has gone off, to generous applause from the 143 crowd, and been replaced by Matt Hall.  Hastings are coming forward, to their credit, forcing a few corners, and Covo is not a happy bunny.  Good stuff.

68th min – GOAL! ….. EAST THURROCK UNITED 4,  Hastings United 0 And from that corner, Wray quickly gets the ball out to SAM HIGGINS.  He runs unchallenged to the edge of the Hastings box and slams the ball home.

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/6-East-Thurrock-4-0-Hastings.mp3|titles=6 – East Thurrock 4-0 Hastings]

Blimey!

67th min – I would update more frequently but there’s nothing much going on.  The Rocks are comfortable and the visitors are toothless in attack.  Until a corner on the right isn’t cleared.  But Jono Richardson shoots straight into Richard Wray’s hands.

59th min – GOAL! ….. EAST THURROCK UNITED 3,  Hastings United 0 And I think the assist should really go to the Hastings player who took their corner.  It goes straight into Richard Wray’s hands, he quickly puts it out on the left, and Sam Higgins’ pinpoint pass finds HAKEEM ARABA inside the area, who shoots into the roof of the net from 15 yards.

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/5-East-Thurrock-3-0-Hastings.mp3|titles=5 – East Thurrock 3-0 Hastings]

Game over.

57th min – The Rocks resume the attack, though, and Kris Newby takes advantage of some poor defending on the right to cross to Sam Higgins inside the area, but his first time lob goes well over.

54th min – At the other end, Liam Upton’s shot narrowly misses Coryton Refinery.

52nd min – Back on the pitch, Sam Higgins surges forward, and his powerful shot from 25 yards goes about three inches over the bar.  Good stuff.

51st min – Elsewhere, Billericay Town have had a shocker so far.  And the ultimate humiliation for Rangers Sevco today.  They’re winning, yes, but at Forres Mechanics.  In the Scottish Cup.  In September.  No chortling there, please.

47th min – Already the visitors have shown more purpose.  A run down the middle into the penalty area by Jamie Crellan is only foiled by a retreating Simon Peddie.  Who boots the ball away after a somewhat short and curt word of encouragement to do so from keeper Richard Wray.   Not for ladies ears, that.

4.04pm – KICK OFF! No chortling at the back there.

—————

HALF TIME:  And very comfortable it has been too.  The Rocks took control from the off on, scored a couple of early goals, and haven’t been threatened at all.  Hastings, for their part, will be very disappointed.  They way they played they may have thought it was a 4pm kick off.

[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/4-East-Thurrock-2-0-Hastings-HT-Summary.mp3|titles=4 – East Thurrock 2-0 Hastings HT Summary]

Still, an early away goal in the second stanza will make things very interesting.  In the meantime, we’re off for a Bovril and an Irn Bru.  Laters.

—————

45th min+2 – For the first time in the game, Hastings get to the bye-line on the left and get the cross in.  Predictably, though, it’s headed away with comfort at the far post.

42nd min – The grumblings from the away supporters are turning towards their own side’s performance.  Lacklustre is the best that can be described thus far.  Okojie’s run aside, there’s been no attacking threat.  There I go, tempting fate again …..

38th min – Oops, my techophobe fears are being realised today.  Apologies for the long breaks between updates.  The man winding the mechanism round has lost the key.  Rocks, though, still well on top, with visiting keeper Matt Armstrong-Ford forced into a fine double save from Reiss Gilbey and Sam Higgins being the pick of them.

24th min – Having trouble with the mobile interweb thingy, so audio reports aren’t uploading.  But you haven’t missed too much.  The Rocks are still pressing for what they might think would be a killer third goal.  Hastings are being outplayed.  And outbattled.

.
18th min – GOAL! ….. EAST THURROCK UNITED 2,  Hastings United 0 Bah!  Still busy writing up the first goal and the Rocks go and score again.  So not fair.  A Kye Ruel run and cross on the right finds HAKEEM ARABA at the far post, who heads into the roof of the net.

Striker!

12th min – GOAL! ….. EAST THURROCK UNITED 1,  Hastings United 0 Reiss Gilbey takes a free kick on the left touchline, it finds Tom Stephen inside the area, he crosses, and thanks to the wind, finds the head of KYE RUEL, who nods home from inside the six yard box.

Liquid football!

10th min – The first sign of Hastings menace.  Dee Okojie dribbles inside the Rocks half down the middle, and Simon Peddie slips.  There’s real danger but the ball is miscontrolled.  Phew.

6th min – The lino by us gets a bit of stick from the visiting supporters for an admittedly inexplicable decision to give East Thurrock a throw-in on the left, from which a corner is forced.  It comes to nothing but the un-natives are restless with it all.  Chortle.

3rd min – A bright start from the Rocks, putting in one or two dangerous crosses, and forcing a corner on the right at the Manorway End goal, which is eventually dealt with.  Already on the front foot though.

3.01pm – KICK OFF! Oh yes!

—————

2.59pm – Joe unsubtly points out “The ref’s tiny.  Even shorter than Reiss Gilbey.”  How to insult two people in two seconds, that.

2.58pm – The teams come out to polite applause from a moderate but well wrapped up crowd.  Chortle.  Manager Covo, as ever, joins us in the press box.  The Rocks, as ever, in their yellowy-orangey shits and black shorts, Hastings in light blue shirts and white shorts.

2.55pm – One of the people that makes is special here is Jenny, who is the queen of twitter amongst other things.  Despite the windy conditions, she’s come along without a jacket, unlike her husband.  And the rest of us.  She’s freezing and we’ve all been very sympathetic.  Chortle.

2.50pm – It’s bright but windy here, which is a perfect description of game summariser Joe, too.  A good lad nonetheless.

It’s always nice to visit Rookery Hill, as well, as there’s a real football club feel to it, as opposed to some of the soulless grounds you get to, or where people involved at a club are in it just to big themselves up.

There’s none of that here, which makes visits here all the more enjoyable

2.45pm – Team News;  East Thurrock United go with:

1.  Richard Wray

2.  Ryan Sammons

3.  Tom Stephens

4.  Simon Peddie

5.  Steve Sheehan

6.  Ross Parmenter

7.  Kris Newby.

2.35pm – A very good afternoon from Rookery Hill, the homely home of home side East Thurrock United.  It’s FA Trophy day, and today they face a battle from Hastings.

The Rocks have recent pedigree in knockout competitions.  Last season saw an unforgettable run to the 1st round of the FA Cup, attracting the attention of Sky and ITV in the process, and reached the Ryman League Cup Final.  In the Trophy, too, they took the scalp of Conference South outfit Welling United.

The visitors, however, will be no pushovers.  Hastings are level on points with Covo’s side in the league, separated only by goal difference, and have a track record for making life difficult for their opponents on their travels.  This could be a good ‘un.

Elsewhere, Brentwood Town, fresh from their controversial FA Cup win, have a tricky tie at famed cup giantkillers Walton & Hersham, and Billericay Town’s recent resurgance in the Conference South will be put to the test by the visit of Basingstoke Town.  ‘Ricay haven’t lost at home.  Basingstoke haven’t won away.  Being a karma sort of guy, I don’t like the look of that.

FA Trophy: East Thurrock United v Hastings United – LIVE

East Thurrock United 4-0  Hastings United

Billericay Town 1-3  Basingstoke Town

Walton & Hersham  1-2  Brentwood Town

Dagenham & Redbridge 3-0  Wycombe Wanderers

Plymouth Argyle  1-1  Southend United

—————
