On this fantastic weekend for Team GB we travelled back just 6 years to 2006 –

The top ten selling singles of the year were –

1 Gnarls Barkley – Crazy – musical collaboration between Danger Mouse and Cee Lo Green, and is taken from their 2006 debut album St. Elsewhere. It became a top ten hit throughout Europe, North America and Australia, in the first half of 2006, reaching number one of the single charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark, Canada, New Zealand and other countries.

2 Leona Lewis – A Moment Like This – one million copies of the X factor winner’s single were pre-ordered by stores. “A Moment like This” was downloaded 50,000 times within 30 minutes of being available online. It ended as the UK’s second best selling single of the year
3 Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean – Hips Don’t Lie – “Hips Don’t Lie” became a global success, reaching the number one spot on the charts in at least 25 countries, including the United States, where it broke the record for the most radio plays in a single week. It was Shakira’s first number-one single in the UK,
4 Scissor Sisters – I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ – written with Elton John, who provides piano for the song, The song scored the band their first UK No.1.
5 Sandi Thom – I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair)
6 Infernal – From Paris to Berlin
7 Take That – Patience – The song won the Best British Single Award at the 2007 BRIT Awards and was voted The Record of the Year for 2006

8 Nelly Furtado – Maneater became one of Nelly Furtado’s most popular singles, topping the singles charts in Poland and the UK, and reaching the top ten across much of Continental Europe.

9 Rihanna – SOS – contains a sample of “Tainted Love”, popularised by Soft Cell.

10 Lily Allen – Smile
