Drive – Monday 28/Friday 1 – Strawberries, Skating and Drumming

First week back on the afternoons and it was a busy, busy. It’s how I like it.

Strawberry Fair

Mark Reed, Brentwood Councillor (as well as many other titles to his name) joined me at the beginning of the week to talk about this year’s Strawberry Fair which happens annually on the Shenfield Common. I would like to congratulate everyone who was involved in this year’s fair, it was a great day and made even special because it fell over the long Jubilee weekend. I was down there early doors, and took a few picks. It also gave me an opportunity to spend some time with my dad, who was there selling Strawberries with the local church, so that was nice.

Mark Reed, Tony Smith & Bob Simpson

This was the best bit of pig I have had...ever!

50th Anniversary

Shenfield High School are celebrating their 50th Anniversary later on this year and Garry Sapsford and Patricia Barber came in to talk about what they are organising to celebrate this milestone. On the 9th September there will be a football tournament with teams representing as many of the last fifty years as they can muster and an impromptu concert performance in the afternoon, featuring present students, staff and alumni. There will also be displays of photographs from past & present.

Past students and staff are invited to attend this celebration and if anyone would be prepared to play in the football tournament or perform in the concert then they would like to hear from you. See thier website www.shenfield.essex.sc

A Facebook page ‘Shenfield High School 50th Anniversary’ has also been set up.

Brentwood Skate-park

Rob MacGowan and Jake Doran from The Brentwood Skate-park association joined me on Thursday to give us an update on how they are getting on with re-vamping the King Georges site. They told us since the last time we spoke in 2011 they have managed to raise £85.000 which is brilliant. We had lots of LOL’s and chips.

The Boxer Rebellion

And on Friday – Piers Hewitt from The Boxer Rebellion joined me in the studio to talk about the band’s recent North American Tour & we played a game of Wiki fact or Wiki fiction.

We played ‘Jobbins & Bobbins’ with the guests this week, and we welcomed Rob Jelly to Phoenix FM with ‘Say My Name…Bryan’
