A RIGHT ROYAL BANQUET

Another bank holiday weekend and once again the weather seems to know it’s a bank holiday! Mercifully today was dry and the sun even made an appearance for a while to lift temperatures and spirits on his special weekend. With numerous events taking place across our region, celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, today’s show was brimming full of music both past and present to provide a right royal feast.

In addition to the fabulous pageant of music on the menu today, we were also fortunate to have Frances Clamp popping in with our Brentwood & Billericay Bygones feature. Her subject today was St Edith’s, an imposing house which, until 1961,  stood in a prominent position on Billericay’s High Street. Although the house no longer exists, St Edith’s Court now occupies a position, adjacent to where the house once stood. Originally a private residence, for a time it became a nunnery before being requisitioned by the state during the second world war. You can listen again to the contribution by Frances here: -[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Bygones-29th-May.mp3|titles=Bygones 29th May]

Well that’s me done for another week. Enjoy the rest of your extended bank holiday weekend, whatever the weather throws at us! See you next week.
