After a rather excellent weekend of music that included Southend band Afterglow’s sell-out album release party at Club Riga Friday night (you can download the album for free at www.afterglowband.net). Then on Saturday at Phoenix headquarters we had this years Creative Sessions. So many great bands over the 24 hours and I really can’t wait for everyone to hear them and play some of them on the show.
When it was time for Sunday’s playlist I felt rejuvenated and decided to pick most of this weeks tracks from some of the great albums released so far this year and also some sneak peeks at some albums due for release in the next few weeks.
I also paid tribute to 2 more artists sadly taken from us, Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn and Donna Summer contributed too and made some great music over the years and if you’ve never taken the time to listen to any of their music you are certainly missing out.
Finally a special mention to two albums I’m completely obsessed with at the moment (and how been for a long time now!). If you don’t own either Daniel Johnston’s Welcome To My World compilation or The Microphones The Glow Pt.2 masterpiece you really need to remedy that now! Go on, start remedying.
