A SOMEWHAT SOGGY PACKED LUNCH

I don’t know about you but I can’t believe that these cold, wet conditions can keep going for much longer. Sooner or later the sun must return to allow us to get back into the great outdoors so we thought it timely to take a look at what steps you might want to take to protect your property.

With this in mind Fred Good, liaison officer of the Billericay Branch of Neighbourhood Watch joined me today. Fred explained what Neighbourhood Watch is all about, it’s aims and how it sets about achieving these. Anybody interested in joining this Neighbourhood Watch can either attend the meetings which are held at 8pm on the second Wednesday of every “even” month at Billericay Town Football Club, leave a message on 01277 633090 or E-Mail Fred at Frederick.Good@essex.pnn.police.uk. You can also get details from Billericay Police station between Noon and 6pm Monday to Saturday or from your local library. There is no membership fee but Fred mentioned that they do have a number of fund raising activities, one of which coming up soon will be a Fun Walk being held at Barleylands on 27th May.

The complete interview with Fred can be heard again here: – [audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Fred-Good-Interview.mp3|titles=Fred Good Interview]

Frances Clamp joined me in the second hour for our BRENTWOOD & BILLERICAY BYGONES feature. Her subject this week was the RITZ CINEMA which used to be on Chapel Street in Billericay. The Ritz opened its doors for the first time in 1938 but in 1971 became a bingo hall, although a small museum was retained celebrating its earlier days. You can listen again to what Frances had to say right here: – [audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Bygones-24th-April.mp3|titles=Bygones 24th April]

Well that’s it for me for another week. Let’s hope that next weekend being a Bank Holiday weekend will behave itself and give us some sunshine. Being a special May Day holiday next week, I’ll have a specially extended show. Frances Clamp will be chatting about Brentwood’s Chess Club which was founded in 1932 and we’ve also enticed Tony Motley of Billericay’s Mayflower Morris Dancers, away from the maypole to give us the lowdown on Morris Dancing. All that plus some of the best music around adds up to a show not to be missed. See you then, I hope.

All the best,

Scott
