AN EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA

Easter Saturday and what happens, the sun disappears behind thick cloud, a northerly wind sets in and the temperature plummets! Not a good day for heading to the hills with a picnic, but quite a good day for sitting close to a radio indoors,  enjoying a few drinks and a clutch of great music. Well at Phoenix we can’t supply the food or drinks, but music we have aplenty and we certainly dished out a ton of that today including a mixture of new releases from the likes of Olly Murs, current hits by Coldplay and Jessie J to oldies from George Harrison, Dandy Warhols and The Supremes.

In addition to the music we looked at some of the quirkier news stories you may have missed, like the one about the woman who called in the experts to remove a huge snake from her loft only to discover that it was a draught excluder! Then there was the story about the council who have set up special lights that they will hope will deter young troublemakers from congregating in certain areas by emphasising their acne spots. And finally there was the story of the grave digger who fell down, and became trapped in the hole he had just dug! I love it – other peoples’ misfortunes are always funnier than ones own – well I think so, anyway.

In addition Frances Clamp popped in with our Brentwood & Billericay Bygones feature. This week she was talking about a number of landmark clocks that have served Brentwood over many years. You can listen again to Frances on this week’s subject here: – [audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Bygones-3rd-april.mp3|titles=Bygones 3rd april]

Well that’s me done for another week. Back again next Saturday for another extended show through to 3pm. Next week I’ll have Ann Wiseall with me. Ann will be telling us about an organisation she is actively involved with – Business & Professional Women. Frances Clamp returns with the history of The Crown Inn, in Billericay. All that and much more so I hope to have your company from 12 noon next Saturday. In the meantime try to enjoy your Bank Holiday break in spite of the less than brilliant weather.

See you next week,

Scott
