First order of business for this weeks round up is to wish Phoenix a happy 5th birthday! Heres to another 5 years and more!
Onto the just as important business of this weeks show and the launch for this years Record Store Day, which takes place on Saturday April 21st. The day itself is mainly to support your local independant record stores, which really do need your custom and support. The list of special releases for this years event is huge and there are so many great releases. For a full list of participating stores and to check out the releases, just visit https://www.recordstoreday.co.uk. I’ll be keeping you upto date with release news in the coming weeks.
Some music news to take with a mountain of salt was the announcement that finally, after god knows how many delays, the long-long-long-long-long-awaited My Bloody Valentine remasters will finally be released on May 7th. Whether this will actually happen remains to be soon, but there will (allegedly) be reissues of Loveless, Isn’t Anything and EP’s 1988-1991. For more information head to this link on The Quietus. https://thequietus.com/articles/08327-my-bloody-valentine-reissues
A new release which comes highly recommend is the EP from s/s/s called Beak & Claw. The S’s that make up this collaberation are Sufjan Stevens, Serengeti and Son Lux. If you are fans of electronica you will love this. AND! It’s available for the mere price of $3.69 from the following bandcamp page. https://anticon.bandcamp.com/album/beak-claw
Another rather excellent recommendation is the Amanda Palmer EP Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele. Which I discovered and downloaded for the bargain price of $1! This was partly inspired by the great performance of Dukes at the Phoenix 5th Birthday Bash on Friday. I await the new hit TV show Ukelele Idol. You can download the EP from https://music.amandapalmer.net
The rest of the playlist was made up of some new tracks from Blood Red Shoes, Burial / Four Tet, Future Of The Left, Battles, Dirty There, Lower Dens and also some old favourites.
Finally, a special mention to the discovery (admittedly it was originally posted 2 years ago) of a bootleg recording of Pavements (officially best band that ever was..) second ever show, which was at Maxwells back in 1990. You can listen to the show for yourself here https://soundcloud.com/herjazz/pavement-live-at-maxwells-aug-12-1990
PS. If you find yourself on youtube, you could do a lot worse than check out Herb Diamante performing My Crazy Aubergine. I caught him supporting Wu Lyf during the week and I’m still not sure what to make of his performance, so surreal. Check him out.
There’s also a little Spotify list after the playlist. See you next week!

01 – Wu Lyf – Spitting Blood (Go Tell Fire To The Mountain)
02 – Blood Red Shoes – Cold (In Time To Voices)
03 – Paul Simon – Graceland (Graceland)
04 – SSS – Octomom (Beak & Claw)
05 – Smog – A Hit (7″)
06 – Pavement – Angel Carver Blues – Mellow Jazz Docent (Perfect Sound Forever EP)
07 – Amanda Palmer – No Surprises (Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele)

09 – Mclusky – No New Wave No Fun (Mclusky Do Dallas)
10 – Future Of The Left – Sheena Is A T-shirt Salesman (Single)

13 – Dirty Three – The Pier (Toward The Low Sun)
14 – Herb Diamante – Penswick
15 – Battles – My Machines (Patrick Mahoney & Dennis McNany Remix) (Dross Glop)
16 – Empatic – Enola Gay
17 – My Bloody Valentine – Feed Me with Your Kiss (Untitled EP)
18 – Pink Floyd – The Great Gig In The Sky (Dark Side Of The Moon)
