Ben Markus of the Ben Markus Band joined me on the line to talk about his two new books! This is a mutli talented guy who I’ve been lucky enough to meet several times over the last few years. He’s great to interview, always interesting and if you are looking for a good book to read, look no further, plus check out his music too! Ben is hoping that Greta will be turned into a film and with that story I only think its a matter of time before it is.

Ben also discussed his current battle with cancer and wanted to talk about his symptons so that if anyone out there is suffering the same they can contact their doctor. Brave man for being so open on air and I wish him all the best with his treatment.

Both of the books are available via Amazon.

Greta: A love story that began in a place where love was absent

‘Greta’ is the harrowing story of an escape from the German concentration camp
‘Buchenwald’ by a young Jewish girl and a camp guard in the winter of 1939. The
story is inspired by and loosely based on a real couple who met under the worst
possible circumstances and despite all the hate around them, managed to fall in
love. The book follows their escape from the camp after Billy fakes Greta’s
execution, their journey across Germany and through France in the Spring of 1940
at the time when the Third Reich was on the verge of attacking France and the
Low countries and incorporates this frantic period of World history. Eventually
they make contact with the French resistance lead by an enigmatic ex World War
One Pilot of American birth who is part of the S.O.E. (Strategic Operations
Executive) then based at RAF Tempsford in Bedfordshire during World War Two.

New Jersey Exile: A music auto-biography (and much much
more)

New Jersey Exile is an auto biographical account of a journey through the music
industry, from the days of vynyl to the present. A pro guitarist since 15yrs
old, Ben Markus managed to get his debut album signed to PYE as an artist in his
own right in 1983. Many albums followed with varying degrees of success but this
story is about much more including chapters of his ten years serving as a
Fireman on a busy city station, being a father, (at one point having all 4 of
his children on a number of recordings and albums) and includes his battle with
cancer in 2012.
