Punks In The Beerlight, Burnouts In Love – 18/03/12

After another week off (all these gigs seem to be happening on a Sunday at the moment!) the 33RPM show returned.
Last Sunday I was at the Union Chapel (possibly my favourite venue) to catch an amazing triple header of Earth, Mount Eerie And Ô Paon. I already knew of the first two bands but knew nothing of Ô Paon (the name in which artist / illustrator and musician Geneviève Castrée performs. I was absolutely captivated throughout her entire set, she is a stunning performer and as soon as she had finished her set I rushed to buy her two albums from the merchandise stall. Along with great performances from Earth and Mount Eerie it was a superb evening. See above a picture (albeit rather grainy) of Geneviève on stage.
Onto tonight’s music and as well as tracks from the above 3 bands we had several new tracks from La Sera, Woods, Beach House and 2 tracks from March 19th releases from The Shins and Lee Ranaldo. Both of these albums are well worth an investment.
As yesterday was St. Patricks day it was a perfect reason to pop some great irish bands on the playlist as well, Thin Lizzy, Stiff Little Fingers and Ash making up the tracks selected.
It’s also the time of year that the Latitude Festival announces it’s lineup. And there really are some great bands on the bill, you can check the full lineup at the following link : https://www.latitudefestival.co.uk/
Finally a special mention to 2 tracks on the playlist, F’d Ups EP Year Of The Tiger features one of the tracks of 2012 so far in Onno, a 22 minute searing masterpiece. Also the Steely Dan track Peg, which I only heard for the first time on Saturday, listening to it no less than 13 times in a row, and I still can’t get the song out of my head.
See you next week!
