This morning’s Sunday Breakfast Talking Point was with some of the members of the Brentwood County High School World Challenge 2012 team.
Leader Mr Rayner with Ben Heywood (year 11) and Will Monk (year 12) talked about this once in a lifetime opportunity to spend a month trecking and contributing to community activities on the other side of the world. It is certainly not a holiday, as they explained, the team of 17 will be camping, cooking for themselves and working hard for people in the world less fortunate than us.
The students have to raise approximately £4000 each to go; and this includes materials necessary to complete the community projects. As we spoke on air, other members of the team were ready at Billericay Waitrose for a day of bag packing and fundraising.
Mr Rayner thanked colleagues, students and parents for brilliant support for the project, one of many extra-curricular activities and projects run by the Expressive Arts faculty at BCHS.
Alongside their busy academic study schedule the World Challenge students will be looking for ways to raise the money they need, and they are offering to help you out with anything they can to achieve this. Do you know someone who needs a garden cleared, a wall painting, an office job doing, maybe?
If you do, and would like to contribute to the team’s funds, then please get in touch with Mr Andy Rayner at the school on 01277 238900, or you can email him at rayner@bchs.essex.sch.uk
Or let us know here at Phoenix FM – ed@phoenixfm.com
Have a great week everyone, see you on Sunday Breakfast next week…
