Jim Reeve

Today I was very fortunate to be joined by local author JIM REEVE.  Now Jim has written a couple of books relating to the history of Wickford and Basildon and is currently working on another book – BASILDON PAST and PRESENT. However today we were looking at his book relating his experiences as a child evacuee during the Blitz during the last war.

Although his book is styled as  A SCHOOLBOY’S WAR IN CORNWALL, we learnt that in fact during the latter years of the war he was actually living in Rawreth. Many people listening will, I am sure feel that this book would make an ideal Christmas present and it can be found on Amazon and at booksellers such as Waterstones, however you can also contact Jim direct via his E-Mail address – Pynnings@aol.com and if you buy the book via this route you will obtain a signed copy.

My interview with Jim is here: -[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Jim-Reeve-Interview.mp3|titles=Jim Reeve Interview]

This week Frances Clamp was telling us all about the history of Sainbury’s in Brentwood from October 1924. You can here her talk again here: -[audio:https://www.phoenixfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Bygones-22nd-November.mp3|titles=Bygones 22nd November]

Next week, timed neatly to co-incide with St Andrews Day on Wednesday Frances will be giving the history of St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Herongate. I will be talking to Frances live next Tuesday afternoon at about 2:30.

Now as I’m away next Saturday, PHOENIX FM’s resident gardener, Andrew Babicz has kindly agreed to step into the breach and deputise for me next Saturday afternoon but I look forward to being back with you on the 10th December. In the meantime look after yourselves.

All the best,

Scott
