The Harbour Club – I was joined by Jane, founder of the Harbour Club which is a specialist day care centre for older adults living with Dementia. We spoke about important activities that stimulate the brain all of which can be enjoyed at the care. Jane spoke about her personal experience of caring for someone with Dementia and I also shared some details about my experience caring for older adults in the public and private healthcare sectors. We discussed the importance of people living with Dementia having high quality services available to use containing relevant activities and well trained staff who can demonstrate a good level of empathy and care. The Harbour Club was founded for this very purpose and I am so glad that Jane has decided to leave full-time secure employment as an Occupational Therapist to start The Harbour Club (although she still does 2 days a week.
