The Breakfast Show – Week 03/10/11 – Hakuna Matata!

First off, the randomness of this photo, the people present and the location really made me chuckle at the end of this week. For some reason our boss @eddiecurry is stood in the middle of nowhere, in a field with international superstar Leona Lewis – random? Very much so!

This week I was joined again by Rob MacGowan (Chairman Of Brentwood Skatepark Association) and keen BMX’er  Jake to give us an update on the latest at Brentwood Skatepark and the recent fundraising Jam which happened at the end of September.

The project is simple – A FUNDRAISING mission to raise £100,000 to rebuild Brentwood’s run-down skate park has been launched.

The newly formed Brentwood Skate Park Association has already collected £500 towards its target and hopes to rebuild the facility, at King George’s Playing Fields, in Ingrave Road, Brentwood, within two years.

Hairdresser Rob McGowan, 31, is association chairman.
He said the current skate park, built nine years ago, has gradually deteriorated.
He said: “It’s something the whole community can use and something for me and my children.

“If we can get the money to rebuild it in concrete, rather than wood and metal, it will be there for my grandchildren too.”

Rob has been involved with skateboarding and BMX activities since he was 11 and his three daughters, Erin, seven, Ava, five, and Effy, three, have followed in his tracks.

He added: “More and more is being taken away from teenagers with even less for them to do. It’s not only a sport lots of people get involved in, lots of spectators like to come and watch too, so it’s very important.”

The association hopes the majority of the funding will come through grants from organisations such as the National Lottery, but the group will hold its own fundraising events too, like the recent Jam – check out some photo’s below

*update* Brentwood Council XI 1 – 8 The Gardeners Arms XI

Went to watch the Lion King in 3D on Friday night. I have never seen a 3D film so was expecting big things – not so much, a little dissapointed. Its a film that definitely doesn’t convert into the 3D format. However it was good to step back in time a little and watch this classic Disney film. Hakuna Matata! I also ended the evening over the toilet, chundering with food poisoning. That is why I don’t go to Romford.
