This week on Drive… (15/08 – 19/08)

I am back on Drive after becoming a daddy. Oliver Lee Powis was born on 31/07/2011 at 11:14am weighing 6lb 8oz after twelve hours of labour. He sure is amazing and I am loving fatherhood.

However… I have come to realise (even though quite a few people told me beforehand) that basically when you become a parent you have to forget about anything to do with sleep. 3am in the morning in now my unwanted friend. Oh the joys of parenthood…

One thing about being up and about at silly o clock with Bubs is that I have managed to catch Ed Wellman on ‘Summer Breakfast’ and since Ed has been on the Breakfast Show a box of CD’s has appeared in the studio. Now I have dubbed this box of CD’s ‘The Wellman Collection.’

Music in this collection is quite varied… Luther Vandross…Wet Wet Wet…Cliff Richard…Club Anthems 2010?

So I decided I would ‘big up’ Ed on my show this week, promote his breakfast show and make a selection from the Ed Wellman Collection.

A couple of guests for you too this week.

On Tuesday I was joined by regular guest Keith Brown from the Essex FSB. We covered a range of topics which included an ambitious lad from Hutton who is single-handedly attempting to dispel the notion that teenagers are work-shy, an intrepid group of Brentwood businessmen attempting to swim the English Channel for charity and the local councillors’ Scissorhands Challenge which is happening in September.

Also Gill and Graham from Brentwood Cricket Club to talk about a recent match that happened at the Old County Ground – Brentwood Buccaneers v Essex Academy in T20 cricket action. On the day as well as the match itself, they had a full afternoon’s entertainment which included cricket coaching and a range of inflatables, and after the game they had live entertainment (and dj). for more information about Brentwood Cricket Club check out their website www.brentwoodcc.co.uk/

Track of the week (TOTW) was courtesy of Ben Howard. ‘Keep Your Head Up’ is taken from Howard’s debut full length ‘Every Kingdom’, which will be released this October on October 3rd via Island Records.

Defined as a hypothetical product of a part Bon Iver, part Donovan makeover, 2011 has already proven to be a highly busy and successful year for Howard. He signed to Island Records at the beginnning of the year, and has already acquired a healthy fanbase built up by extensive touring and word of mouth that followed.
On top of the new single and full length release, Ben recently confirmed a string of live UK tour dates that are to begin in early October. The 17 live dates include shows in Birmingham, Manchester, London and Glasgow. Check out the video below

Lastly, who saw the beautiful rainbow that appeared over the skys of Brentwood last wednesday evening. I have never seen a rainbow that magnificent. Unfortunately the photo I took didn’t do it justice

Brentwood Rainbow

It amazed me that much that I just had to pay homage to it. Yes the ‘Rainbow Theme!’ … in full! Bet you never knew?
