Forgotten Sports Stars

The Tom Walker Show

Talked about the ‘Top 5 Sportspeople/stars You’ve Probably Forgotten About’…

Started the show with a rant about the nation’s gutter press, in relation to the News of the World story (how low can they get?) and generally whined about Murdoch the puppet master.

I shared some of the wisdom of my former fellow Thursday night presenter and Mr Phoenx, Eddie Curry, who wrote on twitter in relation to buying the last copy of this rag…’Not buying #NOTW today. If people want “a piece of British history” they should do what I’m doing today and go and visit a castle.’

…Bodium in East Sussex is my favourite castle if you asking – probably do a ‘Top 5 castles’ sometime in the near future.

Anyway here’s my top 5 much loved and most forgotten sporting stars:

1. Va’aiga (‘Inga the Winger’) Tuigamala – Rugby League/Union Sensation, pop this in your google -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccJlv32kCfw
2. Yannick Noah (wish I had put someone better in*, ie Ridley Jacobs) – flamboyant French Tennis Player
3. West Ham’s Mr Reliable – Steve Potts
4. The Maltese Snooker Sensation – Tony Drago
5. Liverpool’s Irish Centre Half – Phil (ke)Babb

Highly recommended to Nordin Wooter, Ulf Kirsten, Roger Black, Thomas Castaignède, Stan Collymore, the whole Aston Villa 1994 & 1996 League Cup winning teams, Ridley Jacobs, Gus Fraser, Goolagong Cawley, Gunnell, Jockey Wilson and David Campese.

Played some classics including the Mavericks which I danced the night away to last night – longer than I should have.

The Clash – Tommy Gun
Fleetwood Mac – You Make Loving Fun
Kings of Leon – Use Somebody
Jimmy Hendrix – Voodoo Chile’
ACDC – Back in Black
Jackie Wilson – Higher and Higher
Arcade Fire – Speaking in Tongues
Stevie Nicks – Secret Love
Ash – Orpheus
Idlewild – American English
The Police – Message in a Bottle
Record of the Week** – The Mavericks – Dance the Night Away
Aretha Franklin – RESPECT
T Rex -Get it On
The Supremes – Baby Love
Bob Marley – Exodus
The Specials – Rat Race
The Darkness – One Wat Ticket to Hell…and Back
Billy Ocean – Love Really Hurts Without You
Guns and Roses – Sweet Child o’ Mine

All of which were supplimented by the greatest themetune ever – Saturday Grandstand.

See you for a marathon 4 hours next week. Thanks for your texts and facebook messages,

Tom.
