Mid Summer marvellous….

This weekend I decided not mention the weird weather of the last week…but clearly as I write this I ‘ve failed, as the day started pretty warm and it would seem we are blessed with Sun….so I could talk of little else it would seem.

We played a brand spankin New single from MOBY and new stuff from a few unsigned acts which maybe big…soon. Imparticularly, watch out for indie popsters ‘Look, Stranger!’. Twofers today tipped its hat towards the JAM who will be sort of playing, as ‘From the Jam’ at the Brentwood Festival soon – We played ‘Going Underground’ &  ‘Eton Rifles’; not Etonian Rifles as shown by my predictor text, as I made show notes – Technology ay?

My Comedy show picks for this week……

Steve-O: The Entirely Too Much Information Tour – 7th July 2011

Steve-O is best known for performing silly stunts on MTV’s “Jackass”, but now he’s turned his hand to the far less painful pursuit of stand-up comedy. His “Entirely Too Much Information Tour” at the indigo O2.

An Evening of Music and Comedy with Steve Martin – 8th July 2011

Steve Martin is best-known for some classic comedy films (“Roxanne”, “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”) but did you know that he also fronts a band called The Steep Rangers? The band will be touring Europe in the summer to plug their new album “Rare Bird Alert” – Hammersmith Apollo.

Arthur Smith’s Pissed Up Chat Show – 9th July 2011

This promises to be a chat show with a difference… Your host Arthur Smith will be stone-cold sober but his guests will be drunk. What will happen? Will we get a hilarious journey into their deepest, darkest soul, or an exhibition of outrage? – Southbank Centre.

Live music pick for this week;

Mon 04 Jul

Lou Reed – HMV Hammersmith Apollo,

Hugely influential American songwriter who is best known for his deeply personal lyrics in the Velvet Underground. Lou Reed’s controversial lyrics about heroin abuse were often accompanied by beautiful folk music, which has forever maintained a deep sense of poignancy with his former band.

Tue 05 Jul

Beady Eye – Roundhouse, Chalkfarm

Loudmouth Britrock veteran Liam Gallagher returns to the live stage after a stint in the fashion world. Following the departure of Noel Gallagher from Oasis, Liam and remaining members Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock decided to dissolve the old band and re-emerge as Beady Eye.

Wed 06 Jul

Weezer – O2 Academy Brixton

A cult American alternative pop-rock band from Los Angeles. Weezer found early success with their debut album ‘Weezer’ in 1994. Songs such as ‘Undone – The Sweater Song’ and ‘Buddy Holly’ gave the band a word-of-mouth edge which, along with iconic music videos from this period, made Weezer an instant hit with the rock community.

Fri 08 Jul

Gallows – Chinnerys, Southend-on-Sea

Watford hardcore band Gallows formed in 2005 and released their acclaimed debut album ‘Orchestra of Wolves’ in 2007.

The Saturday Breakfast show – ‘get involved??’… If you are in a Band/Artist local to Brentwood & Billericay or a locally based Comic, then I’d love to hear from you!
