Playlist for 7 April 2011 (AOTW Young Knives – Ornaments From The Silver Arcade)

It’s easy to pick YOUNG KNIVES for AOTW as they’re a very easy band to like (if you’re me) but choosing this album was more than a lazy “that’ll do”. It’s true that there’s little of the charm and quirkiness of earlier songs like The Decision but the songs are still very strong and sound better with every listen – it’s much more of a classic mainstream indie pop album. And there’s more than a nod to Blur’s Modern Life Is Rubbish – this makes a good companion album to it, and that’s no insult either.

Tonight’s playlist:

Stone Roses – I Am The Resurrection
Young Knives – Human Again
Thomas Tantrum – Sleep
Ace Out – When The Stars …
Local Girls – 7 Salty Seas
Ida Maria – Oh My God
We Are Scientists – Nobody Move Nobody Get Hurt
Young Knives – Silver Tongue
Young Knives – Storm Clouds
Eliza Newman – Bloom Again
Lovely Eggs – Watermelons
Art Brut – Bad Comedian
Nada Surf – Love And Anger
Stereolab – Percolator
Clash – Guns Of Brixton
Alice Gold – Orbiter
Baikonour – Oben Beg mk3 CBC theme
Metric – Gold Guns Girls
Islington Boys’ Club – Pristine
Milk Kan – I’m Going With You (Phoenix FM session 11-02-2006)
Radiohead – Little By Little
Jam – Smithers-Jones
S*M*A*S*H – Real Surreal
Sleeper – Statuesque
Joy Formidable – Cradle
Midway Still – Your Last Mistake
Ride – Leave Them All Behind
