No fool like an April fool??…..

Well they say there is no fool like an old fool, well what if they are an April fool…. It happens every year on April 1st and people still get caught my some of the simplest of pranks – I declared yesterday that I was closing my Facebook and Twitter accounts, and you wouldn’t believe the floury of concerned friends who believed me; not a great prank I wager, none the less it worked…..

Twofers came from the man know as the Thin white Duke / Ziggy Stardust….DAVID BOWIE. So we played two old faves – Ashes to Ashes & Golden Years.

My Comedy gig Pick for this week was ……

Peter Kay’s “The Tour That Doesn’t Tour Tour”

1st – 4th April 2011

Arguably Britain’s most popular comedian, Bolton-born Peter Kay comes to the O2 Arena with his “Tour That Doesn’t Tour Tour”. After selling out a record breaking run of twenty nights at the Manchester Evening News Arena, this will be Peter’s first national tour since his ‘Mum Wants A Bungalow Tour’ seven years ago.

Ed Byrne, at the Hammersmith Apollo

8th April 2011

Following the success of his last tour “Different Class” Irish comedy star, Ed Byrne, is back on the road with his new show “Crowd Pleaser”. Being a nerd, owning a cat, meeting your heroes or becoming a dad, whatever Ed casts his curmudgeonly comic eye over the end is result is a show that’s sure to please even the most discerning of crowds.

Andy Parsons, from “Mock The Week” – at the Indigo

9th April 2011

Mock The Week’s Andy Parsons once found some underpants in a jar of mayonnaise. He may talk about it. Or he may not. This is his third tour round the country, and he will be holding nothing back. There will be nothing but the whole truth, slightly embellished.

Now spring has sprung we prepared ourselves for lots of live music, and so I mentioned a handful of top gigs to catch;

Mon 04 Apr

Carl Barat – Koko, in Camden

Singer-songwriter, Carl Barat from The Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things

Wed 06 Apr

The Pigeon Detectives – O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire

Leeds indie band are proving to be incredibly popular and the boys wear their Britpop influences with pride. They continue to maintain a populist laddish fanbase .

Thu 07 Apr

Badly Drawn Boy – Union Chapel, Islington

Mercury Prize winner Damon Gough’s is renowned for his sparse, lo-fi songs such as Once Around the Block. His melodic guitar melodies, strong percussion and ethereal voice has seen him remain in the game for well over a decade.

Thu 07 Apr

Faithless – O2 Academy Brixton

Iconic dance duo famed for their glacial house beats and the philosophical intonations of MC Maxi Jazz.

More fun and frolics next week and if you want to have two tracks played by one artist or band [Twofers] then email me – Rob@phoenixfm.com
